Molly stopped by the Internet café every week to see if she’d received any matches through her e-dating service. Before getting online, she would order a cappuccino from the handsome barista. While he frothed her milk, she would fail to muster the courage to speak to him.
Then one day he spoke to her. Along with her cappuccino, he gave her all the details of his recent break-up.
“I know you probably don’t care,” he said, “but I just can’t stop thinking about her.”
“Don’t worry,” she assured him, “you’ll meet someone new.”
“But I have a hard time meeting women. I’m too shy.”
“Maybe you should try Internet dating. That way there’s some distance between you and your date when you first meet.”
“Of course! The Internet! I’d never thought of it!” The barista hopped over the counter and embraced Molly. Her initial response was to pull away—she didn’t even know this person—but it had been a long time since someone had hugged her, or even touched her, so she hugged him back.
